THE LaNSdOWNE HOTEL

An iconic pub and live music venue, with events all week long from trivia, DJ’s and small local acts to international names.

The Lansdowne Hotel, located at the corner of Broadway and City Road, has been serving patrons since the 1920s. Known for its late hours and drink deals, it’s a favorite among university students and a cherished venue for both local and international musicians who value its role in fostering Sydney’s live music scene.

Through the years, the Lansdowne has hosted rising bands and established acts alike, with artists like You Am I, The Preatures, and The Living End gracing its stage. Even Billie Eilish performed here in 2017, drawn by the venue’s unique blend of history and intimacy over larger, flashier options.

Whether you’re attending a show, joining a trivia night, or watching the sunset from the rooftop, The Lansdowne offers bites all day, thanks to the culinary touch of Melbourne’s Happy Mexican. Expect tasty tacos—birria, fish, zucchini, or pollo—as well as guacamole-topped wedges and chilaquiles to fuel your evening.

HaRRINGtON StREET GaLLERY

Harrington Street Artists’ Co-operative Gallery has been exhibiting paintings continuously since 1973, firstly in Sydney’s Rocks area and since 1986 at 17 Meagher St Chippendale.

The idea of establishing a registered artists’ co-operative was the inspiration of the artist John Ogburn.

He recognised the need for a gallery which would assist both developing and established artists to exhibit their best work without having to satisfy commercial constraints. To further guard our freedom to exhibit the best, we have never sought or received government grants. We are able to keep running costs to a minimum through the generosity of voluntary help given by our members and  friends.

WhItE RaBBIt GaLLERY

The White Rabbit Gallery was opened in 2009 to showcase what has become one of the world’s most significant collections of Chinese contemporary art.

Dedicated to works made in the 21st century, the White Rabbit Collection is owned by Judith Neilson, who was inspired to establish it after her first trips to Beijing in the late 1990s. She was thrilled by the creative energy and technical quality of the works she saw and wanted to share them with people outside China. She makes regular trips to China and Taiwan to augment the Collection, which now includes almost 3000 works by almost 750 artists and continues to expand.

The gallery building, a Rolls-Royce service depot in the 1940s, was completely refitted as an exhibition space by architect William Smart. Since the Gallery can house only a fraction of the collection at any one time, there are two new exhibitions a year, each involving a full rehang. For this reason, the Gallery closes during installations, usually in February and August.

The White Rabbit Gallery is a registered charitable institution funded solely by Judith Neilson. Admission is free.

Phoenix Central Park is the singular vision of philanthropist Judith Neilson AM.

A one-of-a-kind performance space in Sydney, Phoenix Central Park aims to revitalise its inner-city neighbourhood with a new cultural beacon that is as bold on the outside as the performances it presents within.

A Fusion of Architecture & Artistry

Envisioned by arts philanthropist Judith Neilson AM, Phoenix is a stunning collaboration between architecture and the arts. The building seamlessly blends visual and performing arts, with John Wardle Architects crafting a private gallery in the east wing and Durbach Block Jaggers designing the unique bell-shaped performance space. Connected by a central courtyard and garden, Phoenix stands as a testament to the harmony of art and design.

The performance space is open to the public during performances only. All performances are free to attend, with tickets allocated via a ballot system.

Season XIV: 8 Oct – 18 Dec 2024

Our Spring/Summer Season comes to life over seventeen performances, traversing genres from post-punk and hip-hop to classical and jazz. New compositions sit beside canonical classics; emerging artists amongst legendary acts.
